Non-Medical Prescribing Update - Topical Treatments

Course Content:-

The course aim is to update participants in evidence-based non-medical prescribing of topical treatments in the management of chronie and acute skin conditions.

This course will explore:

• Clinical assessment of the skin.
• Common dermatological problems and presenting needs.
• Topical steroid quiz (pre-course work).

By the end of the session participants will have an increased understanding of:

• Competencies in skin assessment and topical treatment prescribing decisions.
• Evidence-based prescribing for chronic inflammatory skin conditions.
• Topical treatments in the management of patients with acute skin problems, infections/infestations.

• Welcome and introduction -13.00 to 13.15
• Skin assessment and topical treatment prescribing principles (emollients and topical steroids) – review pre-course quiz - 13.15 to 14.00
• Stretch, drink, comfort break - 14.00 to 14.15
• Chronic inflammatory dermatology conditions – prescribing for eczema, acne and psoriasis - 14.15 to 15.00
• Stretch, drink, comfort break - 15.00 to 15.15
• Acute dermatology – prescribing for eruptions (rashes) and skin infections/infestations - 15.15 to 16.00
• Q & A and close - 16.00 to 16.15
