Clinical Learning Objectives:
Improve diagnostic confidence in differentiating common causes of shoulder pain By the end of the session, participants will be able to clinically distinguish between rotator cuff pathology and glenohumeral arthritis using focused history, examination techniques, and appropriate imaging choices.
Understand modern treatment pathways for rotator cuff disease and shoulder arthritis Participants will be able to describe the current evidence-based management options—including physiotherapy, injections, surgical repair, and shoulder replacement—tailored to the patient’s age, activity level, and pathology severity.
Identify and challenge common myths in shoulder diagnosis and treatment Attendees will critically evaluate widely held misconceptions, such as the over-reliance on subacromial impingement diagnoses, the assumption that irreparable cuff tears have no surgical solution, and outdated views on poor outcomes from shoulder arthroplasty.
Recognise when to refer and how to streamline the referral process General practitioners will learn to identify red flags, signs of surgical candidacy, and understand the referral criteria and expected timelines for patients likely to benefit from specialist shoulder assessment or intervention.
