Mental Health in Primary Care Lunch & Learn Series 2026/27

Course Content:-

Join this monthly bite-sized educational series designed to enhance confidence in recognising, assessing and managing common and complex mental health presentations in primary care.

Topic 1 - Crisis & Risk

This session focuses on crisis and risk, exploring how to recognise, assess and respond to patients presenting in mental health crisis, including suicide, crisis management and referral pathways.

Topic 2 - Understanding Severe Mental Illness

This session focuses on severe mental illness, providing an overview of conditions including psychosis, bipolar disorder, severe depression, anxiety disorders and OCD. Participants will explore recognition, primary care management and when to seek specialist support.

Topic 3 - Medicines & Treatment Updates

This session will provide updates on mental health medications and treatment approaches, covering options beyond first-line antidepressants, antipsychotic monitoring, complex medication management and Shared Care Agreements.

Topic 4 - Personality Disorders

Attendees will learn about the diagnosis and presentation of personality disorders and explore therapeutic approaches that can support individuals living with these conditions.

Topic 5 - Substance Use & Misuse 

This session will focus on recognising and responding to substance use and misuse presentations commonly encountered in primary care settings.

Topic 6 - Neurodevelopmental Conditions

Participants will gain insight into neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD, autism, and learning disability and mental health, with a focus on supporting patients within primary care.

Topic 7 - Other Mental Health Presentations 

The final session will explore a range of additional mental health presentations, including insomnia, functional disorders and eating disorders, helping clinicians broaden their understanding of complex and diverse patient needs.

 

Delivered by local mental health specialists, each session includes a focused presentation and dedicated Q&A opportunity.
