What is a fit note?
The Statement of Fitness for Work, commonly known as the 'fit note' or 'Med 3 form' was introduced in 2010. The fit note can be issued following a health and work assessment by the healthcare professional, either a doctor, nurse, occupational therapist, pharmacist, or physiotherapist, who may be responsible for a care plan. The fit note will provide advice to patients and theit employers about the impact of their health condition, where that may have an effect on ones fitness for work.
In 2022, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) implemented two significant changes to the fit note. A new version of the fit note was introduced to replace the signature in ink with the name and profession of the issure, which means that fit notes can be sent through digital channels (where the local IT system support this). DWP have also enabled nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists, in addition to doctors, to certify fit notes.
This session aims to compliment the official Med 3 Certificate guidance and E-LFH training session recommended by the DWP (accessed here: Fit note - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and The Fit Note - elearning for healthcare (e-lfh.org.uk)). This session is being delivered by a GP working within SNEE General Practice and offers the opportunity to consolidate existing knowledge and actively participate in a Q&A session.
This session applies to all relevant healthcare professionals (non-GP) working within General Practice who are wishing to consolidate their learning on the Med 3 Certificate.
