Sexual safety is an essential part of creating safe, respectful healthcare environments for both patients and staff. While much of the focus on professional boundaries and safeguarding often centres on clinicians, non-clinical staff play a vital role in maintaining safe practice environments and responding appropriately to concerns.
Receptionists, administrators, care navigators and support staff are often the first point of contact for patients, and they may witness behaviours, hear disclosures, or notice warning signs that others may miss. Understanding how to recognise, respond to and escalate concerns is therefore critical.
Healthcare regulators and professional bodies, including the CQC, GMC, GDC and GOC, increasingly emphasise the importance of sexual safety, professional boundaries and safeguarding culture across the entire healthcare team.
This workshop provides non-clinical staff with the knowledge, awareness and confidence needed to understand sexual safety within healthcare settings. Delegates will explore professional boundaries, inappropriate behaviour, safeguarding responsibilities and the practical steps they should take if concerns arise. The session will also address the importance of creating a culture where concerns can be raised safely, ensuring that patients and staff feel respected, protected and supported.
