This web workshop will give delegates a clear understanding of both transactional elements of Clinical Coding and the transformational change it has brought to GP practices. We will look at helpful tips and guidance which supports accurate clinical coding in practice.

SNOMED CT (Systematised Nomenclature of Medicine - Clinical Terms) is the common clinical language that have replace read codes within the NHS. SNOMED CT is a comprehensive clinical terminology that makes healthcare information accessible and usable across the globe. SNOMED provides a "common language" comprised of concepts, terms and relatioships that enable a consistent way of capturing, sharing and aggregating health data across clinical specialties and different sites of care.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Define key terms, acronyms, and abbreviations associated with Clinical Coding
  • Differentiate between terminologies and classifications and demonstrate an understanding how they are interrelated.
  • Gain insight into of the history of Clinical Coding and how it evolved.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the status of SNOMED CT, including the location and purpose of the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic components and structure of SNOMED CT.
  • Evaluate your skills through self-assessment.
  • Equip you with the knowledge and skills to understand your own practice processes and how the role of a clinical coder works in managing effective workflow.
